[EN] Due to increasing industrialization and demographic expansion, the management of agro-industrial waste is a critical global issue. In Europe, disposal costs are extremely high. In South Tyrol alone, thousands of tons of waste are produced every year, including over 35,000 tons of pruning residues and 5,200 tons of grape pomace.
[DE] Aufgrund der zunehmenden Industrialisierung und des Bevölkerungswachstums ist die Bewirtschaftung agroindustrieller Abfälle ein globales Kernproblem. In Europa sind die Entsorgungskosten äußerst hoch. Allein in Südtirol fallen jedes Jahr Tausende Tonnen Abfälle an, darunter über 35.000 Tonnen Schnittgut und 5.200 Tonnen Trester.
[IT] Causa la crescente industrializzazione e l’espansione demografica, la gestione degli scarti agroindustriali è un problema critico globale. In Europa i costi di smaltimento sono elevatissimi. Solo in Alto Adige si producono ogni anno migliaia di tonnellate di rifiuti, tra cui oltre 35.000 tonnellate di potature e 5.200 tonnellate di vinacce.
[EN] ZeroResidue converts this environmental cost into a valuable resource. The project aims to establish a shared infrastructure between UNIBZ and the Laimburg Research Centre for the total upcycling of agricultural waste, closing the loop of the circular economy. Our goal: zero waste, zero losses, everything transformed.
[DE] ZeroResidue wandelt diese Umweltbelastung in eine wertvolle Ressource um. Das Projekt zielt darauf ab, eine gemeinsame Infrastruktur zwischen UNIBZ und dem Versuchszentrum Laimburg für das vollständige Upcycling landwirtschaftlicher Abfälle zu schaffen und so den Kreislauf der Kreislaufwirtschaft zu schließen. Unser Ziel: null Abfälle, null Verluste, alles transformiert.
[IT] ZeroResidue converte questo costo ambientale in una risorsa preziosa. Il progetto mira a costituire un’infrastruttura condivisa tra UNIBZ e Centro Laimburg per l’upcycling totale dei rifiuti agricoli, chiudendo il cerchio dell’economia circolare. Il nostro obiettivo: zero scarti, zero perdite, tutto trasformato.
A CIRCULAR APPROACH
[EN] The infrastructure develops green extraction processes for the recovery of high value-added bioactive compounds (polyphenols, pectins, etc.) intended for the cosmetic, nutraceutical and food sectors. At the same time, the residual non-extractable material is not wasted but tested for energy recovery processes and transformed into biofuel, eliminating the facility’s disposal burden.
[DE] Die Infrastruktur entwickelt grüne Extraktionsverfahren zur Rückgewinnung von bioaktiven Verbindungen mit hohem Mehrwert (Polyphenole, Pektine usw.) für die Kosmetik-, Nutraceutical- und Lebensmittelbranche. Gleichzeitig wird das verbleibende, nicht extrahierbare Material nicht verschwendet, sondern für energetische Verwertungsprozesse getestet und in Biobrennstoff umgewandelt, wodurch die Entsorgungslast der Struktur auf null reduziert wird.
[IT] L’infrastruttura sviluppa processi estrattivi green per il recupero di composti bioattivi ad alto valore aggiunto (polifenoli, pectine, ecc.) destinati ai settori cosmetico, nutraceutico e alimentare. Parallelamente, il materiale residuo non estraibile non viene sprecato, ma viene testato per processi di recupero energetico e trasformato in biocombustibile, azzerando il carico della struttura.
[EN] We create flexible and targeted pipelines that begin with contaminant analysis and lead to the supply of formulations and finished products at pilot scale for our partners.
